This board design is inspired by the surfing of madman Pete Mendia, for a powersurfing hackathon. A board designed for timeless power surfing; gouging rail arcs; big sprays; made for deep barrels and goliath turns. Crazy sweepy tail rocker for a waterworks spectacular.
Any and all dims available. Peter’s is 6’2″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 3/8″
Want this board in it’s most versatile form yet for a wider range of waves? Just ask for the new inverted fulcrum version
…and just what is the inverted fulcrum all about? A shift in the rocker of the board at its center point; the place where it rocks back and forth; the point where it pendulates – I like to call it the spot that generates the speed like a swiveling ball-bearing rhythm slingshotting you down the line. The inverted fulcrum takes an existing curve and creates a little kink or dip just ahead of the center point along the bottom. This shifts all the points on that curve down in the front half and up in the back half…which gives you a feeling like a skateboard always headed on the downslope. Constant steady drive through the dead spots, increased paddling ease, and a quicker, tighter radius arc on the wave face; i.e. Steeper and deeper through maneuvers. I’m finding that the “bumps” and “dips” and seeming irregularities in the rocker curves, if placed in the right spots, actually jibe with the wave better and project your board cross-grain to the natural gravity pull of the wave face…and that’s just where we all wanna be. Quicker, faster, easier. Let gravity work in your favor; invert the paradigm, shift the status quo; the future and the now are poles apart.
- FIN CONFIGURATION: Typically thruster, but also available as five fin option to ride as tri or quad.
- WAVE PREFERENCES: waist high to overhead; fairly decent to good waves
- AVAILABLE TAIL CONFIGURATIONS: squash, roundtail, or swallowtail
- RECOMMENDED RIDER TYPES: intermediate to expert

This is Rory. Him and his brother Max have been getting boards since they were 10 and 12 years old. They are both in college now studying to be engineers at Cal Poly. Good kids…young men, and they give the raddest feedback. The following is Rory’s feedback on a 6’1” x 19” x 2 1/2” 29L #Flyin71surfboard comparison to his 6’2” x 19” x 2 7/16” 29L #G471surfboard HD / #Mendiasurfboard: “I remember distinctly my first wave on my Flyin-71 in November. After
I kicked out of the wave I immediately thought this board is too loose (compared to my 6`2 Mendia Jetstream). After spending a year on the 6`2, I was calibrated for the fast and drivey speed machine the Mendia is. But I gave the Flyin-71 a chance and came to like the board on my frontside (points or beachbreaks). For me, the Flyin-71 feels great in the pocket and made my frontside turns feel a lot better. I got the chance to take the board to Maui in late December and surfed Honolua bay for a couple days. Aside from the waves being insane, the Flyin-71 felt really good. I attached some videos below.
When I came back to San Luis Obispo for Winter quarter in January, I continued to ride the Flyin-71 in big lefts (Morro bay rock). It didn`t feel as good as my 6`2" Mendia Jetstream when it came to backside surfing. I started riding my 6`2 Mendia Jetstream again and my friend, who is a lot better at surfing than me, told me I looked way better on my 6`2 Mendia Jetstream. For backside surfing, I completely agree with him. My 6`2" Mendia Jetstream feels magic on the backhand and I have had some of the best sessions of my life on that board the last 1.5 years. The board feels insane off the bottom and carries speed very well.
But I didn`t give up on my Flyin-71! There is a beachbreak in SLO that
is a pretty consistent right and I always surf my Flyin-71 out there.
So I bought two pairs of fins and ride both boards depending on the
waves, which is something I have never done before (kinda like to
stick to the same board). So in the end, I like both my current
shortboards! I use them both.
I`ll be in Ventura soon and I`d like come by to talk more about boards and buy new ones!
Thanks again for the amazing equipment.”
