In this episode of “People Who Surf” – we have @yvesbright a core-as-it-gets surfer I’ve known for almost as long as my surfing journey began. Yves has been a stand out ripper since he was a kid…and has continued to stay super fit, stay in the water and is still upping his game. He’s a bit of a modern day renaissance man, excelling in photography, a businessman, a model, and a family man. This summer was a huge testament to that adage ‘like a fine wine’ …as I’ve witnessed a very average kinda small scale summer in Cali, but Yves made lemonade out of lemons with the swells. Throwing huge buckets and airs and finners in the South Bay where he resides.

We tuned in a special board this summer too, called the X-15, a nice all-around performance shorty with a slightly fuller nose, relaxed rocker and a shallow single to slightly deeper single concave through the fins.

It’s turned into that quintessential “everything” performance board and has been a treat for lots of surfers this season.

Yves was the first test pilot on this newer design, and he really tested its parameters with his precision focus talent. Just look at how he attacked this end section in slide one. When I first saw it, I was like, “Hey was that a tow-at?” To which he said, “Nope, normal, and it was a small wave too.” Rad!

@petemendia just rode his first X-15. Here’s what he had to say …

This kid @carloszuniga just went to a whole next level.

It’s amazing what a couple tweaks in width, thickness, rocker and glassing can do.

Carlos has been ripping on a 5’9” x 19 1/4” x 7/16” Monsta / X-15,

but then he tried Kepa’s 5’9” x 18 5/8” x 2 1/4” X-15 performance shortboard template…and has been going another gear.

So Kepa blessed our brother with this board, and a more worthy person couldn’t have received it.

Carlos is a dedicated young surfer hailing from Nicaragua and can be found helping in all sorts of ways at @chancletasbeachresort offering kindness, a good word and surf tips to make travelers from our global surf community a family of stoked visitors.

So, in a time when most spotlights are on the media personalities, it’s important to recognize the unsung heroes that are a true blessing to the tribe at a real and grassroots level. We recognize Carlos today for being a rad and rippingggg human!!

Carbon Footprint V4 Spotlight

A few days ago @kepa_mendia and the @billabong east coast crew had a heyday at the Virgina wave pool.

Kepa decided to go haywire on the newly released Carbon Footprint V4, custom fabricated in a 5’8 1/2” x 18 3/4” x 2 1/4” 25.2L X-15.

A slightly more grovelly, flatter rockered version of the X-15.

This new technology allows for a completely custom board to weigh in at around 4lbs and to have an extremely lively kinetic flex pattern that creates increased torsion and extra spring in maneuvers.

You’ll notice this tech has no carbon on the bottom of the board. This allows it the softer, dampening flex feel of a poly (no chatter), with the whippy recoil in the lip feel of an epoxy. All boards made from start to finish in the USA.
