People Who Surf – Stephen from Jersey

Today’s episode of “People Who Surf” – Stephen from New Jersey

surfed a few times as a young boy on a borrowed board from a friend and was immediately hooked. But he lived far from the beach and growing up in a blue collar home that was regularly relocating farther and farther from the beach.

Even so, Stephen drank up the surf scene from afar during the prolific era of the mags and continued a burning desire to one day get to surf regularly. Time, access to surf, and opportunity were not available throughout his boyhood and early adulthood, but he never stopped dreaming.

He worked throughout his teens, twenties and thirties establishing from scratch a powerhouse career analyzing numbers and the inner workings of the finance world…

All the while dreaming of one day committing to go all-in at surfing to see just how good he could be. From the time of that first experience as a kid, Stephen wanted to rip. Once he had established a future, he became an “adult re-learner” in his late thirties, early forties.

He got fit, he paid attention to a healthy diet, he traveled to find good surf, he cross-trained on a skateboard to build up his leg strength…and he surfed and surfed his brains out. That’s when our paths crossed.

Stephen wanted boards that would get him where he wanted to go. “I’m starting late in the game and only have so many years to get where I want to go, ripping at a high level.”

Here he is today at age 50, about 10 years into his dream.

It’s such a privilege to work with people like Stephen; people with drive and vision and positive inspiration.

This journey has seen us through many different board designs and constructions along the way, but as of today Stephen is drawing incredible lines with power, and riding one of the most high level, performance shapes I offer, a 6’0” x 19 5/8” x 2 5/8” 32.5L #Supernaturalsurfboard Stephen is age 50, 6’1”, 185lbs. and Stephen, YOU ARE RIPPING my friend!! Yeeeeew!!
