A study in channels

In this slide show are three different channel bottoms. Each of them has a different combination of channels to make each board do different things.

Board #1

is a 6’6″ x 19″ x 2 5/8″ Ante-up; a step-up board for Matt from Cali who is an expert surfer who’s going to mainland Mex to use this in double overhead square barrels. We chose the straight channels exiting the tail with a quad setup for extreme straight line speed for getting deep and accelerating top speeds to make it out of the impossible stretched out ones.

Board #2

is a 5’6″ x 18 7/8″ x 2 3/8″ Performance Twin Fin (with tiny small trailer) for Mark who wants a speeder in average Santa Barbara waves. We went with the four short channels off the tail to give the flat rocker a touch more release off the tail; to loosen it up in turning without loosing traction (very important with twinny’s).

Board #3

is a 6’0″ x 20″ x 2 5/8″ Greased Pig v.4 for Patrick from the East Coast who needs an all around everyday super versatile performance shorty. We went with the shallow four parabolic channels to create an extra gear in his drive and speed range of his board. The channels compress water through the curve of the tail rocker giving the board more speed. They also add a touch of grip in turns. The curved shape keep the board from tracking and follow the arc of a turn so you get the benefits of channels without any of the historically temperamental side effects.
