About 9 months ago, I took my first surfing lesson and was instantly hooked.
At the time, I had an 8′ soft top and a 6’3″ shortboard.
The 8′ was great to learn on and the 6’3″ never felt quite right for me.
I realized that I need to have a custom board to “bridge-the-gap” between these two extremes.
I sought out Proctor Surf because I wanted to buy local and actually talk to the shaper.
Todd prescribed me with an “El Pavote” – 6’1″ x 20″ x 2 5/8″.
I was a bit reluctant with the reduction of length, but Todd assured me that the board will float me.
I took the board out for a few occasions and was surprised how well the board “fit me”.
It paddled very easily and even more importantly it kept me afloat (very much like my 8′).
I was finally able to catch a few rides with it a week ago.
Needless to say, I am VERY happy with the board.
I look forward to another custom board consultation in the coming years.
